Best known for their classic “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida,” Iron Butterfly burst onto Southern California music scene in the late 1960s. While on the road with the likes of The Doors, Airplane, Dead, Traffic, The Who and Cream, Iron Butterfly’s debut ‘Heavy’ stayed on Billboard’s album charts for almost a year.
They followed up with the monumental quadruple platinum “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” whose title track clocks in at 17:05, an entire album side, shaking up the music industry – plus it stayed on the charts for almost three years, with 81 weeks in the Top Ten. “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida” sold more albums than any artist in the history of the music industry, and the Platinum Award was invented for Iron Butterfly. They also hit gold with their third album ‘Ball.’
