“…oh, yes, I can’t forget the very first Iron Butterfly album (1968’s ‘Heavy’), which was not (the band’s second 1968 album) ‘In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida.’ It has a song called ‘Iron Butterfly Theme,’ and that had as much to do with getting me into rock as hearing The Kinks or The Yardbirds.”
To prove it, Scholz began to sing the principal melody from the all-instrumental “Iron Butterfly Theme” over the phone from his suburban Boston home. He gave extra emphasis to its unabashedly psychedelic guitar lines.
“The ‘Iron Butterfly Theme’s’ odd time-signature, the sound of the guitar and its brute power, that’s what really got me,” the 67-year-old Scholz recalled. LINK
